Clinton Linnis Mills Jr.

Clinton Linnis (Linn) Mills, Jr., 76, passed away February 28, 2014 in Henderson, Nevada. Linn was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 7, 1937 to the late Clinton Linnis Mills, Sr. and Ann Thorley Cox. He was the eldest of five children and grew up in Woods Cross, Utah. Linn served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sydney, Australia. He later married Barbara Hansen on June 29, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple. Linn graduated from Utah State University with an M.S. degree in horticulture (‘68). During his career as a horticulturalist, Linn worked for Utah State University Extension in Salt Lake City and the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension in Southern Nevada where he later became the Southern Nevada Area Director. Linn went on to work for the Las Vegas Valley Water District and retired from there this past fall. He was a longtime garden columnist for the Las Vegas Review Journal and did garden segments for then KVBC-TV 3, KLAS-TV 8 and the Southern Nevada Water Authority’s “Water Ways” show. Linn also co-authored The Nevada Gardener's Guide with Dick Post. He won awards both locally and nationally. Linn also initiated the Master Gardener Program in Southern Nevada and was a board member at Gilcrease Ranch. Linn was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a bishop. He also served in the Boy Scouts as a Scoutmaster. Linn had a way of making everyone feel special. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a great friend to all he met. He will be sorely missed. Linn was preceded in death by his youngest sister Marian Mills. Linn is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Hansen Mills; daughter Missy (James) Cahill; grandchildren Noah, Calley, Courtney and Jacob  Cahill; brothers Melvin (Lynda) Mills; Gordon (Joan) Mills; and sister Marcia (Mac) Roundy. A viewing will be held Friday, March 7, from 4 – 8 p.m. at Palm Eastern Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada. Services will be held Saturday, March 8, at 10 a.m. at the Warm Springs Stake Center, 7670 S. Bruce, Las Vegas, Nevada.
