A resident of Las Vegas since 1972, Cheryl Ann Barton was born in Biloxi, Miss., to Paul J. and Marjorie D. Barton on July 14, 1956. Her formative years as an Air Force child were spent all over the world, from North Dakota to Japan, and instilled in Cherie a lifelong love of travel. (Her ashes will be scattered on both coasts as her journeys continue.) She graduated from Western High (‘74), voted most likely to succeed in business. Instead she thrived as a mother. Cherie was married to Charles Vincent Felgar in 1975 and gave birth to Brian and Erin Felgar before divorcing. She raised her children as she did everything else: with a ferocious generosity. A Clark County employee for 23 years, Cherie spent her career helping people through administering health benefits. In her desk was a stockpile of cards for colleagues' birthdays; in her home a stash of wrapped presents for upcoming occasions. A voracious reader even as her eyesight failed, she would listen to books on tape of every genre, from pulp to Pulitzer winners. She loved great food, whether a comfort dish from Mary's Hash House, a gourmet meal at a four-star restaurant, or a simple potluck with friends and family. Above all, Cherie loved being a grandmother to Avery Clyde Felgar. A giver until the end, Cherie was an organ donor. A service for Cherie will be held at Palm Mortuary, Downtown, at 2 pm on Saturday, May 16. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider giving blood.
