CWO4 Cecil (Gus) Leroy Suggs, U.S. Navy (Ret), a 27 year resident of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2016. Gus was born on October 18, 1921 in Erwin, North Carolina to Lauretta and Frank L. Suggs. He went on to serve a distinguished, heroic, career in the U.S. Navy. Gus’ military service took him into full combat duty in the Pacific during WWII, the Korean War, and again during the Vietnam War; serving through the Cold War Era. His training was in ordinance, including missiles and nuclear weapons, as a Nuclear Field Engineer, which took him to nearly every part of the world. Gus retired from the U. S. Navy after 28 years of service. He retired again after another 18 years working for Lockheed Martin Missile and Space. Gus lived a full active retired life, mostly golfing. He met his wife Colleen serving as Deacons at Mt. View Presbyterian Church. Together they blended their lives and interests, which included traveling the world, swimming, and gardening. Gus was a wonderful, caring, Godly man and he will be missed by all who knew him. Gus is survived by his wife of 17 years, Colleen; two daughters, Sandra (Bob) and Linda (Monte) from his first marriage of forty-nine years to Margaret Neubauer; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Through his marriage to colleen; Gus is also survived by two sons, DeWayne (Jennifer) and Norman (Janine); and seven grandchildren.
