It is with great sadness that the family of Catherine Anne (Cannella) Stevenson (36) announce her passing after battling a medical condition for the last nine years. Catherine had only been married to her husband, Michael, for less than a year when this occurred; but she was able to face these challenges with the love of her life by her side. Their love never wavered in the face of adversity, and he was able to bring immeasurable joy to her life. With her husband and mother always by her side, Catherine took on her many challenges with a determination of always believing and never giving up.
Catherine was a graduate of Las Vegas Day School, Bishop Gorman High School and UNLV where she obtained her dream of becoming a teacher. She worked for CCSD at Givens Elementary School as a 2nd grade teacher. She loved teaching, her school and her students. She especially had a love for reading that she instilled in them every day.
Her love of reading created many friendships with some of her favorite authors. She had the opportunity to proofread for some of them and would also attend an annual book conference where she would visit with them and make new friendships along the way. Being actively involved in the literary world was not only meaningful to her, but those experiences and relationships brought much happiness into her life.
Catherine had other passions in her life. She thoroughly adored her “fur babies”. She had a cat, Oreo and two dogs, Callie and Buster. She adored her two Nieces, Olivia (1) and Kylie (7). She also loved Disneyland. “Beauty and the Beast” was her favorite. It was a very special place and a preferred destination for her. Disneyland was where Michael, whom she was the most passionate about, proposed to her. Catherine was always completely enamored with her husband, and it was evident to her family and close friends that she truly had found her soulmate.
Catherine had many awesome people in her life. She loved staying in touch through FB with her childhood friends, schoolmates, fellow teachers, the authors she adored, and her family. If you were blessed to meet her, you instantly became her friend. If you were her friend, you were someone special in her life.
She will lovingly and forever be remembered by her devoted husband, Michael J. Stevenson; her mother and step-father, Sylvia and Michael Zorsch; Her father and step-mother, John and Michelle Cannella; her brother and wife, John and Jessica Cannella; Her beloved nieces; Olivia and Kylie of California; Her Mother and Father-in-law, Bill and Judy Stevenson, of Delaware; Brother-in-Law and wife, Matthew and Tina Stevenson, and nephews Bobby of Delaware and Cody of Camp Pendleton, USMC. In addition to the many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and family friends.
As a teacher, Catherine had a passion for education and impacting the lives of children. Her family asks that in lieu of flowers that you consider donating to the Boys Town Nevada in support of their work with children and schools through their LIFT Together program. Donations can be made below.
