She was born November 22, 1940, in New York City to Madeline and Harry Nelson. She was married to the love of her life, Salvatore A. Fazio, (deceased) in 1962, and enjoyed 56 years married life. She was pre-deceased by her loving sister, Gay Birdsall, her parents, Harry and Madeline Nelson. She also enjoyed a close, loving relationship with her two nieces, Carrie Wiekert and Stacy Claus, along with her great nieces, Zella and Theo.
In 1961, she received her BA in Elementary Education from Colorado State College, and her Masters of Education from UNLV in 1991. She spent 38 years of teaching school and devoted herself as a much loved fifth grade educator. The education system of Las Vegas lost a superstar when she retired from teaching in June 1999.
Being in a military family, Carolyn developed a love for world travel. She enjoyed doing puzzles, visits with her brother, Paul Nelson, and was a master genius when it came to crocheting and knitting.
She is survived by her beloved brother, Paul Nelson (Patsy), her nieces, Carrie Weirkert (Matt), Stacy Claus (Marty), Barbara Chapman, Kimberley Anderson, Georgiana Hemmington, her nephew, James Chapman (Donna), and numerous nieces and nephews in Nevada and Florida.
Carolyn shared a special bond with her great nephew, Bobby Stella, his wife, Tara, and their children, Luca, Ava, and Olivia.
She also left behind her close friends Toni, Barb, Marie, Peggy and her many close friends from teaching. She loved you all!
Funeral Services will be held on July 17, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., at Palm Eastern Mortuary with graveside services to follow. A reception will be held in her honor, at Palm Eastern Mortuary following her burial.
