It is well with my soul! Bobby Matheny, age 65 and a long-time resident of Henderson, Nevada passed away peacefully, on the morning of December 22, 2013. Born November 1, 1948 in Beland, Oklahoma, Bobby was the eleventh son born to Frank and Iola Matheny. He attended St. James Baptist Church and through faith, Bobby believed and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized on July 28, 1958, at the tender age of 10. Bobby had the distinct privilege to be influenced by many inspirational teachers and mentors who helped to build a solid foundation of confidence in his ability to accomplish his goals. In 1983, Bobby earned an Associate's Degree in Business Administration from Southwest Community College in Los Angeles, California. In 1970, Bobby was drafted into the United States Army where he served his country courageously in the Vietnam War. Bobby received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army on December 9, 1971. Bobby married Gloria Mack early in his life and to the union two children were born, Dana of Atlanta, Georgia and Derrick, who preceded him in death. He later married Betty Starks and to the union, Makiea Bobby was born. Bobby lovingly cared for 6 step-children during his life: Darren, Darrell, Antonio, Kimberly (Kim) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lisa, Los Angeles, California, and Kathy who preceded him in death. Bobby loved the Lord with all his heart and in 2013, he clearly sought after an even deeper relationship with his Father in Heaven. Bobby was a Deacon and felt that he was being called to preach the word of God. Bobby memorized the scripture verse, "Saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - Ephesians 2:8. Bobby was a man of God! Sunday mornings were spent with Makiea, listening to the word of God. It was Bobby's desire to see Makiea grow to love the Lord and follow after Him. These were tender moments spent together between Bobby and Makiea.
Bobby is survived by five siblings, Wilbert of Las Vegas, Nevada; Jot, Roy, Mary Ann Matheny, and Ola Matheny-Treco all of Aurora, Colorado. Seven brothers precede Bobby in death.
