Her family relocated to La Grange, IL, where she graduated from Lyons Township High School in 1967. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Texas in 1970, where she met her husband, Dan Hewitt Owens on a blind date. They were married in 1972.
Upon graduating college, Betty’s first career job was in Human Resources for Western Electric in the Dallas, TX area. She remained in that profession her entire career. Betty held management positions with many major corporations. At the time of her passing she was HR Administrator in Risk and Benefits for the City of Las Vegas.
Betty was a member of Desert Spring United Methodist Church.
Betty loved animals and had dogs and cats as pets her entire life, many were older rescue pets. She contributed to various animal charities.
She loved all types of music from Opera to Country. She played the violin in high school and college and was a member of the prestigious Longhorn Singers in college.
Betty passed away on April 8, 2023. She is the daughter of the late Eugene G. Cehan and Elaine Mae Dandridge Cehan. She is predeceased by her nephew, Billy Owens. In addition to Dan, is survived by her brother Dr. E. Gregory Cehan, (Sarah Cehan) and sister Barbara Jean Bell (Dr. Bill Bell). She is also survived by her nephews H.R. Owens, Rusty Owens III, James Bell (Nayiri Bell), and their three children Avedis, Zaven, and Dalita. Her surviving nieces include Christina Bell (Dr. Ann Reed), Elizabeth Gilbert (Travis Gilbert), and their three children Tristan, Scarlett, and Ryder, along with Shay Gard (Dave Gard) and their children Trevor and Hannah. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Rusty Owens (Joy Owens) and Buddy Owens (Nita Owens).
