Bernadette is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Jim Denton and sons-in-law Dan McCumber and Randy Womack.
Bernadette is survived by her 12 children: Lillian McCumber, Bernadette Womack, Leslie Fass (Larry), Linda Cornman (Roger), Suzie Sympson (Gary), Jimmie Denton (Milinda), Pat Denton (Felicitas), Therese Torres (Perryn), Marty Denton, Michael Denton (Rose), Terry Denton, Chris Denton, 35 grandchildren, 73 great- grandchildren, and 13 great- great grandchildren (with one on the way).
Bernadette grew up in Michigan and shortly after getting married she and Jim spent a few years at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina while he served in the Army. In 1956 they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada when Jim’s family opened The Hickory Wood Bar B Que on Fremont Street and the Denton’s Golden Spur on the Las Vegas Strip. In the early 1970’s Bernadette and Jim moved with their children to Kingman, Arizona to open The Chat N Chew Drive-In on the world-famous Highway 66. In 1975 they returned to Las Vegas. Shortly after Bernadette began driving a school bus for the Clark County School District. She retired in 2003 after driving for 27 years.
Bernadette was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church for over 60 years. She enjoyed her retirement years spending time with her children and ALL of her grandchildren. Bernadette especially loved all the little ones. She will forever be remembered for her famous chocolate fudge that she only made for Christmas.
Visitation will be held at Palm Mortuary Northwest on Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 4-8pm, with a Rosary beginning at 6pm. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church at 11am followed by the burial service at Palm Mortuary Downtown.
