Barbara Ann Hudson Lee Morris was born on March 25, 1947 in Magnolia, Arkansas to the late Choucia Jackson and the late Ludine Roberts-Jackson. She is the only child to this union. At 9 months old, Barbara and her mother moved to Muskegon, Michigan. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at the age of 6 years old.
In 1961, at the age of 14 years old, Barbara and her mother relocated to Los Angeles, California. She attended Edison Junior High and Fremont Senior High School (mighty mighty Fremont), graduating in 1965. Taking home economic classes jumpstarted her love for cooking, sewing, and cleaning (especially on early Saturday mornings). She joined Greater Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Wilbert Hudson Sr., who would soon be her future father-in-law. Barbara sang in the choir and watched children, cultivating her love for kids.
It was at the church, she met her first love, Arnold V. Hudson. They were married on January 8th, 1966. To this union, they had 4 daughters, Rochell Marie, Jill Yvonne, Nicole Elise, and Kimberly LaRae.
She taught at Hawthorne Christian School and Faith Lutheran until the early 1980s. After the death of her husband Arnold, she went to school and earned an Associates degree in Business. She then began working at AFSA, later known as ACS Education Services, where she was a supervisor for various student loan processing functions. In 1986, Barbara married Thomas E. Lee. From this brief union, they had Ashley Desney, Barbara’s last biological daughter.
Barbara was a woman of all things. She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, daughter-in-law, surrogate to whoever someone needed her to be, and a friend. One thing about Barbara was her love for children. She loved her girls, even though she said she always wanted boys. She was a foster mother, taking in many children at one time. Additionally, she was the woman who the entire neighborhood called “mom”, and was always ready with a warm hug and something to eat.
On June 26th, 1994, Barbara married Fred Morris. After her retirement in 2007 at the age of 60, Barbara and Fred relocated to Henderson, Nevada, where they remained married until Fred’s passing in 2020. They joined Greater Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Welton T. Smith III. She worked in the youth ministry, served with the I.M.P.A.C.T. group as an advisor, and fussed with everyone on the culinary committee. She held several themed movie nights, wrote, directed, and produced many plays for the church, and even made some of the costumes and props by hand.
After her first diagnosis of breast cancer in 2009, she began working in fundraising with Making Strides Las Vegas. She has hosted many breakfasts and breast cancer screening events. In spite of the cancer, she still served the Lord and her church. Up until her time with this brief illness, she worked with the culinary committee, with her last act of service being in August 2023.
Barbara leaves behind her daughters, Rochell Raiford, Jill Hudson-Bradford, Nicole Hudson, Kimberly Hudson-Plummer, and Ashley Lee, the boys she wanted (her sons-in-law), Marcus Raiford Sr., Scott Bradford, and Michael Plummer, and her daughters’ partners, Sergio Corral and Kenderick Conner. Grandchildren LaShay (DesShon), Bianca (Joey), Marcus Jr. (Maly Mae), K Leigh Giles, Paden Giles, Brooklyn (James), Cameron, and Kenderick Jr.. Great-grandchildren Kourtnee, Marcus III, Kingston, Malyaa, Kaidence, and Raquel. Siblings Billy Jackson (deceased), Caroline Jarrett, Charles Jackson (deceased), Dennis Jackson, and Annette Jackson. And a host of godchildren, foster children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless other co-workers, friends, and loved ones.
Along with family, Barbara leaves behind a legacy of faith, endurance, loyalty, womanhood, service, strength and resilience. Her spirit and love for life was imparted on everyone who came into contact with her. Her family hopes to honor her journey, knowing she is with us, as we walk the path ahead. She was loved greatly, and will be dearly missed.
