Barbara (Barbs, Bobbie, GG), our beloved Mother, Grandma, sister, aunt and friend was reunited with her husband and true love, George, on Feb 17, 2024. Born to Ted and Irene Mairet on July 26, 1929, she grew up in Davenport, IA with her three sisters, Dorene, Carole and Teddy. There she obtained her nursing degree and went on to work 30 years in labor and delivery, which was meant to be as she went on to have 7 children of her own (Tim, Beth, Laura, Andrea, Kate, Lisa and Tony), foster children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
Mom was unconditional love, kindness, generosity, strength and warmth rolled into one amazing person. She put her family first, opening her door and heart to any in need and surrounding them with her love. She listened without judging, and found the best in everyone even at the worst of times. Her compassion touched the lives of so many.
She was devoted to her church and dedicated to St. Viators and her wonderful group of ladies she met there. The luncheons with them were the highlight of her week. Angels in every spot at home, she is now with those in heaven.
Her passions were many, bowling until the age of 92! Watching her 49ers (thrilled they went to the superbowl this year!). From her teenage years, she loved "ol blue eyes", Frank Sinatra and danced to his tunes on her 90th birthday. She loved to dance with George and we know she's doing that again now. She loved to read and shared books with her daughters and to collect things (a trait she passed on to her children) bells, angels, lions, and most recently garden gnomes. A faithful watcher of General Hospital, she followed it all 60 years (we will try to carry on the tradition as we don't remember a time without it).
Mom was a Leo at heart, (just like the city of Las Vegas) loved her lions, always wearing her lion necklace and decorating her home with their pictures. Her cat , Kira was always on her lap. She sparkled, from the twinkle in her eyes to the sequins on her sweaters and the glitter in her always immaculate nails. Her luck at penny slots amazed us all, and when we find those pennies from heaven, we'll know who they're from.
She will always be our sunshine, a selfless example of unconditional love and her vibrant spirit will shine bright in our memories.
"In life's great whirlpool, you'll play part
So get in at the beginning and get a good start
Always remember to be good and true
And remember the ones who are dear to you"
Love Daddy 1938
