Ann "Nonnie" Leo, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, returned to Heavenly Father Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011. She was born Nonnina Marie Merluzzi in Syracuse, N.Y., April 13, 1918, to a large Italian family where her father owned the local meat market and her mother managed 11 children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Teresa Merluzzi; two brothers, Alex and Paul Jr.; and three sisters, Rita Merluzzi, Margaret Massaro and Gina Merluzzi. She is survived by three brothers, Armond (Christine) Merluzzi of Las Vegas, Alfred (Mary Ann) Merluzzi and Anthony (Debbie) Merluzzi; along with two sisters, Susie Merluzzi and Mary Bombard, all of Syracuse. After World War II, Ann married Daniel Anthony Leo (deceased 1974) and they have one son, Daniel Armond Leo. She has a daughter-in-law, Paula Kay Leo; and three grandchildren, Corinne Ann, Nannina Marie and Daniel Anthony. She has many nieces and nephews in Las Vegas, and Syracuse. In late 1974, she and Danny followed her brother, Armond and his family to Las Vegas, where she opened Ann's Beauty Lounge, a successful business for over 20 years. Her hairdressing career began when Danny, her son, was small and continued until her 90's. Ann loved first and foremost her family and friends, then gambling, cooking and the church. She always had an accepting and forgiving attitude and loved having people around her. In her final days, she was cared for by a loving family, Betty and Tommy and without them we would not have had her for as long as we did. Ann's smile and style will be forever remembered and greatly missed. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday March 3, with a Rosary being said at 6 p.m., both at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. A funeral service will be at 11:45 a.m. Friday March 4, at Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church, 3050 Alta Drive. Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Park-Northwest, 6701 N. Jones Blvd.
