Alexander died in San Diego, California on April 7, 2020 due to a medical condition. Alexander De Mateo was born in the Philippines, moved and grew up in Salinas, California at 10 years of age. He graduated from North Salinas High School and attended Hartnell College. Alexander enjoyed playing tennis, wrestling, football, weightlifting and woodworking. After college, Alexander enlisted and served in the Navy for 4 years. He received a Good Conduct Medal Award and consistently received high evaluations during his service.
After completing his military service, Alexander worked as a mail carrier for the United Postal Service at Watsonville, California then transferred to San Diego Spring Valley location. He worked for over 30+ years for the United Postal Service. He received the Million Mile Club Award for safe driving without an accident in his entire career.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents, Angeles and Purita De Mateo, and his older sister Rosalinda Soriano. Alex has 5 living siblings, older brother Angelito, older sister Marilou, younger siblings, Perla, Abe, and Vicky. Also, nieces Jennifer and Nicole and nephew Jordan and nephew-in-law Jonathan. Brother-in-laws, Perfecto and George and numerous cousins and other relatives.
Alexander enjoyed being with his family and they were important to him. Alex also had many friends whom he built lasting relationships with through the years. Alex had a generous, humble, and humorous nature. He was always willing to help those in need and loved working with his hands. He always treated people with respect. He will be missed and loved by many.
