She was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey to the late Jack and Marie Burns. She attended public schools in Atlantic County, New Jersey.
She relocated to Largo, Florida in the 1950’s and was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life: Roosevelt Austin Sr. for 46 years. Roosevelt Sr. preceded her death in 1983.
Mrs. Austin was a dedicated Christian and loved the Lord. She was a devoted member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Clearwater, Florida, and after relocating to Live Oak, Florida a dedicated member of Melody Christian Center Live Oak, Florida.
Mrs. Austin was employed by Bay Pines Veteran Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Austin were the first African American owners of a sanitation business in 1958 in Largo, Florida. She was referred to as a talented and gifted business woman with a generous spirit.
Mrs. Austin loved children and often provided a safe and loving home to those in need.
As a result of her generous spirit she was respected and loved by the masses everywhere she went and will be remembered by all who were fortunate to be touched by her life.
