She was born on March 7, 1932 in New York City to Dorothy Santanna-Garcia & Jose’(Joseph) Antonio Garcia. She was a first generation American of parents from Spain and Portugal. Joyce studied voice privately for many years beginning in her early teens. Joyce graduated from Bryant High School in Astoria, Queens in 1950 and attended business school upon graduation while also pursuing a career in music and singing professionally. Joyce had a career with General Motors Corporation in New York City as an Executive Secretary for 30 years and continued singing as a soloist with the General Motors Chorus performing in concerts, executive functions and major hotels in New York City. Joyce continued her passion for music and singing as part of the Anona United Methodist Church Sanctuary Choir for over 25 years. Music was a tremendous part of Joyce’s life, however her biggest passion was her children/grandchildren/great grandchildren and family. Joyce made a point to always let her children and family know that they were loved and continued the legacy of her parents by passing down family traditions and family stories.
She is survived by her daughters,Susan Garcia-Nikolova (Emil) and Audrey Garcia-Vigotty (Kevin), her Grandchildren, Carmen Malia Garcia DeMotts and Jesse Alessandro Wright and her Great Grandson, Jude Malcolm Santanna Shields.
Funeral services will be held at Anona United Methodist Church following the holidays on January 25th, 2025 at 2pm.
