Janet Marie Brown, born on July 14, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, to parents Felix and Helen Wiland, passed away on September 18, 2024. She graduated from Swanton High School and shortly thereafter married her beloved husband, Billy J. Brown, on November 23, 1962. After Billy’s service in the Air Force and Air National Guard, they embarked on a business journey together, opening a convenience store in Ohio before relocating to Florida, where they owned and operated two convenience food stores.
Janet pursued a career in office management for a decade, but her passion for helping others led her back to college. In 1998, she proudly earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of South Florida. Her dedication to serving the community was evident through her work as a Guardian ad Litem, advocating for children and families, and as a Parent Aid with the Exchange Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse.
Known for her warm spirit and generosity, Janet was a cherished neighbor, a devoted mother, caring sister and a loving grandmother. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, service, and love.
She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Ann Kappeler (Dr. Keith Kappeler) and Joel Brown; grandchildren, Cooper James Kappeler, Crosby Rian Kappeler, and Sydney Marie Brown (fiancé Nicholas Mark Stubler); and siblings Mary Jane McKay (Edward), Phil Wiland (Susie), Don Wiland (Carol), and Denise Waldvogel.
A visitation for Janet will be held Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 1-3 pm at Serenity Funeral Home, 13401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL 33774, followed by a funeral service at 3pm
