Alma Pearl Husketh Burnett Smith, beloved mother and grandmother, died on May 15 in the home she shared with her daughter. Born on the 15th of September 1925 in Durham, NC, she was the youngest child of Charles Thurston Husketh and Ada Pearl Fogleman Husketh.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert B Smith, husband Edward Burnett, sisters Portia Lee Husketh, Lida Husketh Currin, Ruth Husketh Mangum, Mary Elizabeth Husketh Cooke, Margaret Ann Husketh Kirkland and brother Howard Husketh.
She is survived by her daughter Deborah Schnader, grandson Stephen Bowman, granddaughter Lauren Bowman and a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends she loved as family.
A graduate of Bragtown High School Class of 1942, she was the former CEO of the Pepsi Cola bottling plant of Burlington, NC. Along with her husband Bob, they opened the first new bottling plant in Pepsi history.
A lifelong baseball fan and animal lover, her intent in this life was to share God’s love with everyone she met. She loved singing gospel music but her greatest joy was simply derived from spending time with her family. An infectiously positive and altruistic attitude permeated all that she touched, and her impact on the ones she loved cannot be understated. A truly rare breed of wonderful, Alma will be remembered for her smile, her laughter, and most of all the endless wellspring of love and joy that she brought into this world.
