Stephen graduated from St. Andrews Catholic High School and then served in the US Army for 28 years. He also served in the Michigan National Guard Aviation service. He married Angela (Green) Payne.
Stephen loved to pilot planes, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed traveling. He had a great love of music and he shared this joy with his family.
Stephen will be forever missed and greatly loved by his family: wife, Angela; sons, Jason (Tiffany) Payne, Andrew Payne, and Cole (Deanna) Payne; step-children, Amber Lundberg, Nicole Polhill, Shelby (Donovan) Polhill, Tara Gardulski, and Michael Metivier; grandchildren, Evan Payne, Aislynn Polhill-Alley, Oliver Lundberg, William Polhill, Inara Daniels, and Iris Daniels; brothers, Bernie (Vickie) Payne, Rev. Jim (Joanne) Payne, and John (Vera) Payne; sisters, Ellen (Mike) Zirkle, and Sue (George) Heilmann; and Aunt Marian Payne. Also, many nieces and nephews and life long billiard friends.
He is predeceased by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held in April. Contributions in honor of Stephen may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society.
