Sharon Martin died on February 15, 2018. She was with her two daughters and son-in-law, Dawn (Orr) Wesenberg, Stephanie (Orr) Martin (Bert Opperman), and Mike Wesenberg as well as the caring staff at The Willows/Legacy Memory Care Unit in East Lansing, Michigan and Compassus Hospice of Lansing. These last few years were a blessing as her worries and anxiety were replaced by pure joy. Sharon was known for loving everyone and was well loved in return. She always had a smile and a laugh.
Sharon was a prominent member of the Piatt County community, working in various roles including Sangamon Township, the Monticello School Board, and the Piatt County Board, for which she served as Vice-Chair and then Chair. She was also involved in local politics as the Vice-Chair of the Piatt County Republican Committee for several years. She was known for her dedication to truth and fairness as well as her principles, regardless of personal cost or political expediency. She was also known for helping animals, particularly cats.
Her daughters remember her as a dedicated mother who was always there for them, regardless of time or place. She was a model of strength, compassion, morals, ethics, and commitment. She never stopped learning and applying herself and they try to live by her example.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, E. Wayne Martin of rural White Heath as well as her sister, Sue Smith of Urbana.
She will be sorely missed.
Her daughters would like to extend their thanks to those who helped us with this journey.
