He was born on November 6, 1937, in Harrison County, a farming community, near Clarksburg, West Virginia on Lamberts Run, to Tony and Thelma Davis Gianettino. He was one of four sons. His family and friends called him Bud.
He had several passions in life: learning, teaching, travel, his faith, and his family.
Bud loved learning and teaching. He completed his undergraduate work at Salem College and Ohio University and held two graduate degrees from Michigan State University. He taught in East Lansing Public Schools for 25 years, teaching everything from second to twelfth grade with 18 of his years in the third-grade level at Marble Elementary. His teaching was not just a profession, it was a calling. During his years of teaching, he was affectionately called “Mr. G” and remained close with several of his students throughout their adult life. He was one of the founders of the East Lansing Historical Society and he wrote a book on the History of East Lansing that was used to teach East Lansing History in their schools. Bud was awarded the Outstanding Educator, from the College of Education at Michigan State University.
Bud loved traveling and visited all 50 States in the US and 30+ countries. He had a strong love for his country and served in the Navy from 1955 to 1958 aboard the aircraft carrier USS Randolph (CVA 15) as an electrician mate second class (EM2). During his time in the Navy, he served two eight-month tours with the 6 Fleet in the Mediterranean Sea. Developing a love for travel during his time overseas, he took his family on a five-week sabbatical to Europe to trace his family history seeing sites he had always dreamed of seeing. Bud had a love of travel from a young age that started when he would hear the trains’ whistles as they passed his parents’ farm, making him wonder where the trains were going and where they had been. He was happy to have been able to travel and go the places he believed the trains had been.
Bud is survived by his wife Sondra (Cawrse) and his three children: Robert B. Gianettino of Mashpee, MA, Pamela S. Aggerbeck and her husband Jan of Mashpee, MA, and Paula Carr and her husband Rick of Laingsburg, MI. He had six grandchildren: Ashley Rae Cody of Blair, OK, Christopher Gianettino of Charlotte, NC, Zak Kranich and Fiancée Anna Lyons of Williamston, MI, Josh Kranich and his wife Beth of Nashville, TN, Brian Aggerbeck and his wife Samantha of Franklin, MA, Nicholas Aggerbeck of Boston, MA, and step-grandson Cody Carr of East Lansing, MI, and five great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother David Gianettino and his wife Carolyn, and Ken Gianettino and his wife Sara. He was predeceased by his parents Thelma (Davis) and Tony Gianettino of Lamberts Run, WV and his brother Jim Gianettino of Parkersburg, WV. Jim is survived by his wife Susan.
Bud was a member of the South Church of the Nazarene in Lansing, MI. He was a member of the Gideon’s International where he served in many administrative roles during his time as a member.
