He was born in Lansing on November 21, 1939 to Cecil Edgar and Pauline Antes. Phillip had ten siblings.
Phillip attended school at Eastern High School and he served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. He married Linda Murphy in 1963 and together shared two sons and one daughter. He retired from Motorwheel.
Stub was a diehard Detroit Lions and Michigan State fan. He enjoyed playing and coaching all sports. He was also an avid antique collector and especially liked old coins, toys, and sports memorabilia.
Most of all, Stub was a devoted husband, loving father, and was an example to family and friends of kindness, generosity, and unconditional love.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Edgar and Pauline Elgaard; several siblings, Cecil, Winnie Schlienz, Jerry Graffice, Joyce Look, Sandy Sprout, Billy, Rich, and Mike; and his daughter, Michelle Reed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; sons, Michael (Melissa Escareno) and Jeffrey (Andrea) Edgar; sisters, Kay and Kathy; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life will be planned for Stub this spring.
