Maxine Louise Johnson died September 23, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, in 1992, and her parents. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Kay (Roger) Tews of Chippewa Lake, Michigan, and Janice (David) Chase of Holland, Michigan; four grandchildren, Kimberlee (Mark) Gibson, Darren Tews, Leah (Brad) Wallar, Erika (Jeff) Harrison; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Helen Johnson.
Maxine was born in Jackson, Michigan, graduated from Lansing Eastern High School, and married Alfred Johnson in 1941. While her husband served in the Navy during World War II, Maxine supported the war effort by working at Diamond Reo. After the war, she worked as a school secretary for the Lansing Board of Education. As their family grew, they enjoyed traveling and outdoor sports. Maxine and her family were active members in Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lansing, and she served for many years in the Missionary Society and spent countless hours volunteering in long term care facilities. Maxine experienced great joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and their families. Her strong faith and love of family was demonstrated in many ways, and she served as an example of strong personal integrity.
The family wishes to express their appreciation for prayers, loving thoughts, and support from their friends and the wonderful staff of Resthaven Care Center of Holland, Michigan, and Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church.
A Worship Service Remembering Maxine will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 11:00am at Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1001 N. Capitol Ave., Lansing, with Rev. Paul J. Lindloff officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens in Lansing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church or to Resthaven Care Center, 280 W. 40th St., Holland, MI 48424.
