Martin was born on February 16, 1929 in Anoka, MN, the son of George and Hannah Onstad. Martin proudly served his country in the Coast Guard and then joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After his active duty, he joined the Naval Reserve. Following his service, he received an Associate's Degree from Lansing Community College. Martin had various occupations during his life. He was a truck driver, a mechanic, and a mechanic supervisor.
Martin married his love, Margaret D. Pulice in Lansing, MI. She preceded him in death in 2022. Martin loved to golf in his free time. Martin was very active in the community and in his children's lives. He was a member of the VFW Post 701, American Legion 460, Lansing Lodge 33, Royal Arch Masons Chapter 9, Lansing Commandery Chapter 25, Shrine of Saginaw, Volunteer of American Red Cross, and MIOC #5. Martin's favorite thing to be apart of was his son, LeRoy's Boy Scout Troop, Troop 181.
Martin was the king of dad jokes. He could make anyone laugh. He was very outgoing. He made anyone feel like family. Martin was always helping others, on his own or as a volunteer.
Martin is survived by his sons, Gary (Cheryl) Onstad and LeRoy Onstad; grandchildren, Eric Onstad and Chelsea Onstad; in-laws, Norma (Robert) Pulice, Thomas Pulice, Linda Wise, Larry (Joann) Pulice, Roger (Jeanne) Pulice; and many nieces and nephews.
Martin is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; his son, Dale, who passed in 1965; his parents; brother, Roger Onstad; sisters, Marie Davis and Dorothy Inman; in-laws, Richard Pulice, Robert Pulice, Donald Pulice, Norma Reynolds, Norma Pulice, Eva Pulice, and Ken Wise; and other loving family members.
A memorial service for Martin will be held 12PM Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave, Lansing, with visitation an hour prior. A luncheon will follow the service at the funeral home.
