John William Haney, age 86, passed away peacefully with family by his side on November 14, 2024. John was born on February 13, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois. After his service in the Marines, John moved to Lansing, Michigan to attend college and then raise his family.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Janette and Martin; his beloved wife of 41 years, Patricia Haney; and his nephew, Matthew Haney. He is survived by his cherished daughters, Dianne (Michael) Eisele, Karyn (Joseph) Hurley, and Trisha (Quaqien) Gauna; his adored grandchildren, Taylor Hess, Austin Haney, Reece Goodrich, Addyson Hurley, Gisele Gauna, and Connor Hurley; and his brothers Roger and David Haney, along with their extended families. John was also fortunate enough to find companionship and love once more with Kelly Grace. Their 12-year relationship was filled with mutual respect, joy, and shared memories, bringing light and happiness to his later years.
A lifelong scholar, John earned a master’s degree from Michigan State University. He found his calling as a professor of accounting at Lansing Community College, where he inspired countless students with his expertise and passion for teaching. He also ran a small accounting firm, Tax & Accounting Associates.
John was an avid golfer. He liked engaging in lively political discussions. He also enjoyed cheering on MSU sports, he loved the Spartans and would often travel to see them play.
A graveside service will be held in Chicago on Friday December 6th, 2024.
