Passed away suddenly September 29, 2010. Born August 31, 1925 in Flint, MI the son of LaRue Barrett and Amelia (Burtraw) Sessions. He married Alice Springborg and she survives. Homer is also survived by his children: Janet (Lee) Metzelaar of Haslett, Dawn Penland of CO and Rick (Sheri) Sessions of NE, 2 grandchildren, Scott (Shelley) Sessions, Steven (Becky) Sessions, 5 great grandchildren, Nicholas, Micah, Jacob, Trinity and Hailey and 2 sisters, Alice Hile and Iva Clark. Homer grew up on a farm in Ionia and learned early the value of hard work by helping his mother Amelia, after his dad died when Homer was 10 years old. He served in the Army during WWII at the age of 18, graduated from MSU and married the love of his life, Alice Springborg, in 1949 . Their family consisted of four children (Janet, Rick, Rob and Dawn), two grand children (Scott and Steven), five great grand kids. After 30 plus moves, he ventured back to the Springborg family farm house in Lansing just two weeks ago and was going strong. He and his wife Alice have been totally dedicated to raising their family. Homer had a very successful business career including executive positions at Michigan National Bank, Wickes Corp and Public Service Co of Colorado, primarily in corporate cash management. While officially retired in 1990, he never slowed down and really enjoyed daily accomplishments, big and small. He was an accomplished golfer who won two Saginaw C.C. championships in 1968 and 1969. Homer's biggest and most successful mission in life was helping and serving family, friends, tenants and many others. He was active at the Applewood Methodist church in Colorado. Homer was a wonderful, caring, kind hearted man and a true patriot. We all miss him dearly. His memory, influence and impact will live on.
Homer’s family will celebrate his life with a Service of Witness to the Resurrection on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church, 510 East Ottawa St., Lansing, MI with Rev. Dr. Jeffrey O’Neill officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, from 4-7 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt, MI.
