Harold (Dallas) Kane, born July 9, 1940, in Owosso, MI, went to be with his Savior, Jesus, on January 6, 2023, in Lansing, MI. While he had been battling Alzheimer’s over the past few years, he always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. He leaves behind a loving family and a group of friends, vestiges of a life well lived.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Louise Kane, his wife, Mary Lou Kane and his brother, Eugene. He is survived by brothers, Dale Kane (Carolyn), Fred Kane (Sandy); sisters, Joan Mills, Ruthie Placeway, Rita Sinn (Will); daughter, Kimberly Sager (Mark), and son Kevin Johns (Robin); grandchildren, Joe Sager, Ben Johns, Katie Johns and numerous nieces and nephews.
He attended Morrice High school in Morrice, MI. Served in the Army Reserve and Michigan National Guard before working at Oldsmobile. He had a long and distinguished career (37 years) before retiring from the US Postal Service in Lansing, MI.
He enjoyed hunting and sports growing up as part of a family of seven children in rural Shiawassee County. As a young man, Dallas fell in love with, and married, Mary Lou Suter. She came with two children, Kim and Kevin. While it most certainly was a challenge, he treated Kim and Kevin as his own and loved them until the end. He and Mary Lou joined Sandy Pines recreational community around the time their first grandchild arrived. Hundreds of days and sunsets were spent doting on them. Trips to Naples, Florida, with Mary Lou, to visit Kim and her husband were cherished and often remembered experiences. Dallas was a sports enthusiast. He especially enjoyed watching MSU sports in person and on TV.
Dallas led a life inspired by devotion to family, friends and his Lord. He enjoyed camping with his family at various state parks and the United Methodist campground on Townline Lake in the Lakeview area. He was always there to lend a hand whenever he was needed. He participated in countless moves, painted houses inside and out and mowed lawns. Working in the yard was one of his favorite things to do. His lawn was always immaculate and looked like a carpet. He served and ministered to his Guatemalan brothers and sisters on numerous mission trips. He supported his family by working second jobs for many years as a custodian
at various Lansing area schools. Dallas served in many capacities at the churches he attended. Whatever was needed, whatever he could provide, Dallas raised his hand and served with a smile, enthusiasm and a kind heart.
