Emily will always be remembered as a happy go lucky, full of spirit and life teenager. She loved music and sang with the Waverly Choir. Emily had a love of carousel horses and collected many. She enjoyed playing Euchre and was very good at it. Emily loved deeply and cared for everyone around her. In 1992 Emily suffered a traumatic brain injury from an automobile accident. Life as her family knew it changed.
However, even after her accident Emily kept her smile and spirit for life. She gave the greatest strong hugs which were always a special gift to those that loved her. Emily was a cancer survivor, in 2012 she was diagnosed with bladder cancer and bravely went through the treatments and surgeries associated. Even through all of her struggles Emily remained a beautiful young lady inside and out.
Emily is survived by her mother, Beth (Jim Ward) Carlson; father, Jack (Millie) Carlson; sisters, Tammy (Spencer) Kinney and Alissa (Louis) Franconi; nieces & nephews, Lindsey Kinney, Olivia (Rishad) Al-Eisa, Hunter (Jennifer) Kinney, Harrison Kinney, Gwenyth Franconi and Gabriella Franconi; a great-nephew, Jude Al-Eisa. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Walter (Marcella) Houpt and William (Lucille) Carlson also her uncle, Mark Carlson.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Thursday, March 3, 2022 with Rev. Robert C. Bacik presiding at St. Gerard Catholic Church 4437 W. Willow Hwy, Lansing, MI 48917. Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 am prior to the Mass at Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Lansing.
