Donald was born January 12, 1937 in Lansing, the son of David Thomas Phillips and Margaret Frances (Baldwin) Phillips. He graduated from Eastern High School. After high school, he went on to serve the United States of America, in the Navy from 1956 until 1959. He was stationed in Subic Bay, Luzon, Philippines, where he met and married his wife.
He married Lourdes (Balan) Phillips, who preceded him in death in 2013. Donald was a machinist from the time he left the service until his passing. He loved spending time with family, friends, and loved his grandchildren. He received his pilot’s license at the age of 15 and flew with his dad and friends. He loved flying, planes, working on cars, hunting, auction sales, all the family pets including Paco the horse, and many family dogs, especially Mister and Charlie.
When his children were young, he loved taking them fishing, camping, hunting, and showing them the great outdoors. There were many good family memories from the fishing and camping trips.
Donald is survived by his children, William T. (Belinda A.) Phillips, Lorraine J. (Wayne) Lovegrove, Timothy (Efegenia) Phillips, and Susie Bement; his grandchildren, Jessica (Mark) Thayer, JulieAnne (Eric) Reichstetter, Zachary Lovegrove, Paul (Rachael) Lovegrove, Elizabeth (Sam) Mitchell, Alyssa Lovegrove, Michelle Bement, and Benjamin (Gabrielle) Bement; his 8 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Gerald (Pat) Phillips and Janet Beauchamp.
Donald is preceded in death by his wife Lourdes and his parents, David T. Phillips and Margaret Frances Rouse.
