Clifford Fred Edwards "Jack", age 98, of Lansing, Michigan passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023. He was born in Okemos, MI on December 17, 1924 to Claude and Belle (Phillips) Edwards. Jack grew up on a farm and in 1943 enlisted in the United States Navy, serving on the USS New Mexico BB40 in World War II.
He met his wife Lorraine while cruising the gut on his Indian motorcycle and they were married in 1948. Jack worked for 45 years in the Grounds Department at Michigan State University, where he was involved in the development of much of the campus. He retired in 1987 but continued to bleed green. After retiring he and his son Scott traveled and showed his Allis-Chalmers tractors. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 701 in Lansing.
Surviving are his children, Ann Boyer, William (Lori) Edwards, David Edwards, John (Sherry) Edwards, Tom Edwards, and Russell Edwards; loving granddaughter, Kelly Boyer; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; son, Scott Edwards; son-in-law, Bob Boyer; grandsons, Kenneth Edwards and Ethan Edwards; great-grandson, Zackary Boyer.
The family would like to extend thanks to the staff of Fairview Adult Foster Care and The Care Team Hospice.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday.
