Carol was born March 5, 1948 in South Bend, IN to Hale and Pauline (Widawski) McKinney. In the mid-1950’s the family moved to Grand Ledge, MI. Carol graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1966. The wonderful community of Grand Ledge, and her happy memories there always held a special place in her heart. Following graduation, Carol began working at the Michigan Education Association, in the Production Department. Eventually she became the organization’s Membership Supervisor before becoming an Assistant in the Executive Office from which she retired in the mid-1990’s. Retirement was a little too quiet for Carol who became a retail associate in 2000 at what was Hudson’s in the Meridian Mall. Known as the “Folding Queen”, she worked there for ten years, transitioning to Marshall Field’s, then Macy’s before retiring again. She enjoyed working with her co-workers as much as her interactions with her customers.
Carol is survived by daughter, Maureen; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and close friends. Carol is predeceased by her beloved husband of fifty years, Peter “Chris” Bergin; her parents; her brother; Tom McKinney; and her sisters, Amy Mulford and Jackie Lankford.
