It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Antonio (Tony) Eugenio Ortiz, a beloved member of the Bath Township community. Tony passed away unexpectedly on April 27, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving wife Lichelle.
Tony was born on January 24, 1963, in Laredo, Texas, to parents Jose and Josefina Ortiz. He was a dedicated and accomplished firefighter, joining the City of Lansing Fire Department in 1995 and rising through the ranks to become Captain of Station 9 until his retirement in 2020 after 25 years of devoted service.
Tony had an unparalleled work ethic, and even after his retirement, he continued to work at Premier Security. In his free time, Tony enjoyed traveling, camping, and tending to his lawn. He was a loving family man who cherished spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family. Tony was known for his quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and selflessness. He lived his life with compassion and service, always willing to lend a helping hand and share his knowledge with others. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Tony is survived by his devoted wife Lichelle Villegas-Ortiz, son Jonathan (Kara) Ortiz, daughter Sarah Ortiz, grandchildren Elijah, Roman, RJ, Alexis and Rianna, parents Jose and Josefina Ortiz, sisters Maria (Chris) Velasquez and Monica (Isaac) Ortiz, brother Jose (Alicia) Ortiz, mother-in-law Patsy Villegas. brother-in-law John Villegas-Bayshore, sister-in-law Bobbi (Dale) Barlow, sister-in-law Debbie Knipfer, brother-in-law William (Marty) Doty, sister-in-law Amber Johnson, father-in-law Michael (Dawn) Knipfer, special friends Pat (Laura) Medina and Ceasar (Susan) Hinijosa, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and others whose lives Tony touched are invited to visitation May 10, 2023, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing MI 48912 and May 11, 2023, from 10:00am to 11:00am at Trinity Church, 3355 Dunckel Rd., Lansing MI 48911. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am following visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made, in Tony’s name, to the Neighbors United Donations, www.walkforthered.org.
Tony's legacy of love and service will continue to live on in the hearts of all those who knew him and loved him.
