It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of our dad and Grandpa, Robert “Bob” MacLeod Young, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Bob was predeceased by his first wife, Carol Lynne Young, his parents Margaret and James Young, his sisters Margaret Atkinson, Kay Neil, and Joan Ford and brother Doug Young. Bob is survived by his children Shannon (Prentice), Jeff (Anne), Heather (Darren) and Megan (CJ); grandchildren Kyle, Samantha, Cole, Mitchell, Gabriel, Cassius and Tiberius and great granddaughter Ellie, many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Bob began his career working for many years at MacMillan Bloedel, he taught wood carving at night school in New Westminster and worked the last half of his career at Silverwood Dairy, Palm Dairy and Dairyland. Bob was known as a remarkable and talented artist and woodcarver, winning many awards. Apart from his family, art, music, photography and gardening were his passions. Anyone that knew Bob knew he had the best selection of music and equipment and enjoyed working for Hits to Go Music in North Delta as a DJ in his spare time. Bob coached minor hockey in North Delta and was involved in the Sungod Figure Skating Club for many years. Bob also co-hosted the Do It Yourself show on Delta 10 cable tv. Bob loved playing hockey in a men's league but he especially loved playing hockey with his son, Jeff, grandson Cole and brother Doug. Bob was an avid cyclist who rode a vast amount of kilometers throughout the Fraser Valley.
After many years living in North Delta, Bob lived in Mission and Walnut Grove.
Bob donated generously to BC Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society. Donations are welcomed in his memory.
The family would like to thank his long time care giver, Michelle, and the staff at Care Life Fleetwood for their loving care of our dad.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
