April 11, 1929 - November 26, 2023
Phill passed away on November 26, 2023, peacefully at Delta View Rehabilitation Centre after 94 years of life. He was born in Vancouver to Russell Edward Armstrong and Jean Wilhelmina Armstrong (nee McGregor). He was survived by his wife, Ann (nee Trachuk), his sister Jeannie Yates along with his daughter and son in law, Martha and Jeremy Rogers.
When he was young, Phill trained with his father in the construction trade where “Armstrong
and Son” built houses and duplexes around the Vancouver area. He spent winter weekend at Hollyburn Mountain skiing with a club of Kerrisdale friends who called themselves “the Sojaxs”. He loved horseback riding, and he spent time in the Caribou, the interior and in Gibson’s with family members. Phill was a life-long member of the Kerrisdale Masonic Lodge, Zion No. 77.
Phill and his wife moved from Vancouver to a brand-new Woods bungalow in Richmond where he and his father built the garage, and he gave their home a mid-century modern flare to the interior. He ended the construction business and started working for Air Canada which became a long 37 1/2 year career as a Passenger Service Supervisor. He and Ann traveled to places such as the Bahamas, Ireland, Palm Springs, England and Hawaii. Later in life, they joined friends to ride horses with the “Trail Riders” and they spent summers riding and camping in and around Banff, Alberta.
Phill will be greatly missed by family and friends. There is no funeral or celebration of life … there are no flowers nor cards needed. Phillip Armstrong will always be remembered in all of our hearts.
