It’s with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Viegener at the age of 74. Marilyn was predeceased by her husband, Len, and survived by her three loving daughters: Elizabeth (Mike), Jennifer (Chris), Meghan (Matthew) and her adoring grandchildren - Makena, Leo, Carter, Emery and Cole.
Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Marilyn always dreamt of a life on the West Coast. In 1988, Len and Marilyn made that dream a reality, moving their young family to a beautiful new home in South Surrey, British Columbia.
Marilyn enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, warm sun on her face, the breeze off the ocean, a beautiful sunset and raising her kids in BC suited her just fine. The girls will remember fondly mini-van adventures with their mom exploring all the beautiful places that BC had to offer, playing in the tide pools at White Rock Beach, hiking through Campbell Valley Park, weekend trips to Parksville, bike rides through town or day trips into Stanley Park.
Marilyn loved planning vacations for the family, and she had a real knack for finding places that surprised and delighted her kids. She seemed to know about every must-see experience that a place had to offer, endlessly researching each trip beforehand to get the most bang for her buck. Marilyn loved a good bargain; she’d find a way to make a shoe-string budget trip feel like a luxury vacation.
Growing up, Marilyn was an incredibly bright child, skipping two grades in high school and entering college early. Marilyn had a wealth of knowledge and could speak with confidence about any subject matter. She could beat anyone at a game of Jeopardy and even auditioned for the show in the early 2000’s. She was sharp as a tack until the very end.
Marilyn was an incredibly kind, caring and loving person. She would open her home up to anyone in need and made everyone feel very safe and welcomed. Her daughters never doubted for a second the depths of her love for them, and they will be left with a lifetime of memories of a woman that loved them, their spouses and their children fiercely.
Marilyn will forever be in our hearts. A wonderful woman taken much too soon.
