Duane Thomas Freeman

FREEMAN, Duane Thomas, age 78, of Langley, BC passed away Monday, October 28, 2019. He was a graduate of Sedgewick High School and Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. He had a long career with McGavin Foods, starting as a mechanic in Edmonton working his way up to Corporate Fleet manager in Langley, BC. He finished his career with UHaul and then started to enjoy retirement.

He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed camping with his wife in their RV throughout Canada and the United States and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He had a love for animals, antique farm equipment, old cars and the mountains. He was born in the mountains, made every opportunity be near them and even collected artwork of his favorite ones.

Throughout his life, Duane enjoyed donating his skills in mechanics to help others and he loved the challenge of figuring out how to fix things. He was a former Cub Scout leader and in retirement, was an active member of the Orcas and Peace Arch chapters of the Good Sam’s Club.

Preceded in death by his parents Arthur Eldridge Freeman and Gwendolyn Freeman (nee Jones). Survived by his wife of 54 years, Edna Irene; sister Darlyne and her husband Leonard of Hardisty, Alberta; daughter Shauna and her husband Mike of The Woodlands, Texas; son Darren and his wife Sharon of Surrey, BC; granddaughters Heather and Lisa and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Our family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful help and care given at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital. If desired, friends can make memorial contributions to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Kidney Foundation or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Association.

Funeral services and interment will be held in Sedgewick, Alberta at the Sedgewick United Church on Thursday, November 7th starting at 2pm.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, November 29th in Langley, BC at the Langley Golf and Banquet Center from 1pm-4pm.
