James Spires

James (Jimmy) Spires, 80 of Lancaster passed away on February 21, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born to the late James H. Spires and Helen (Sayre) Franklin on April 27th, 1937 in Athens County, Ohio. James served 6 years in the Ohio National Guard and worked as a very skilled carpenter for 49 years. Upon his retirement he enjoyed building many different pieces of furniture for his family and friends. James mostly enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards and most importantly attending his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s activities.

James is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Edgington) Spires of 60 years; his loving children; Rick Spires, Lisa (Steve) Nichols, Janie (Greg) South; his loving grandchildren, Heidi (John) Laughlin, James Ryan (Erin) Spires, Stepanie (Seth) Enright, Ashley (Brad) McNeal, Matt (Jessica) DeVault, Justin South, Tiffany (Dominik) Stamey, Tabitha Smith, Amber Smith(fiancée, Austin Romine), Hayley (Anthony) McKenzie and Emma South; loving great-grandchildren, Abby and Brooklyn Seymour, Zane Laughlin, Jayden Spires, Aubrey, Rayley, and Lane Stamey, Wyatt and Weston McNeal, Karlee Enright, Maci DeVault, and arriving soon, Olivia Romine; also survived by his siblings, Lenora, Hazel, Kathy, Pam, Harold, Bill; many nieces and nephews; and very special friend, Mack Haessly.

He was preceded in death by siblings, David Spires, Robert Bieber, Dorothy, Norma Jean, Maria.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Shelley Romine and FairHoPe Hospice and the Pickering House for all of the loving care and support.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 26th, 2018 at 1PM at the HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Paul Wymer officiating. Burial is to follow at Rehobeth Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8PM at the funeral home, as well as ONE HOUR PRIOR to the services on Monday.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Pickering House (282 Sells Rd Lancaster, OH 43130) or to the family to help with expenses.
