Devoted wife and mother, Virginia Sue Crowder, surrounded by family, went home to be with the Lord and her husband Frank on March 30, 2019. Born in Web City Missouri to Clarence and Una Hayes in 1938, both of Missouri, she moved with her family to San Bernardino in 1943. The family owned and worked on a chicken ranch out of their home for many years.
After graduating high school, Sue went to work for Cal Electric where she met the love of her life, Frank Crowder. Frank and Sue married in 1961 and raised their children Frankie and Susan. Sue also worked for AAA and later for Bank Of America. Because of Frank's job at the Edison Company, they moved to various places in Southern California where she always managed to find a job working in the vault at Bank Of America, as she always said, to get her out of the house and give her something to do. Sue loved raising her family, spending time with her grandchildren, traveling in their motor home, meeting new friends, and reading romance novels.
Sue and Frank retired to Arroyo Grande and then to Nipomo California; they were married almost 50 married years, the last 21 in retirement. Her husband Frank went home to be with the Lord in August of 2011. In 2013 she moved back to Lancaster to live near her daughter Susan. Sue enjoyed going to church with Susan and her husband Chris and became a member of New Life Fellowship in 2014. During her last seven years she experienced dementia; in 2014 her son Frank and daughter Susan moved her into an assisted living residence called the Prestige when she was no longer able to live on her own.
Sue is predeceased by her husband Frank and brothers Don and Fred Hayes. She is survived by son Frank and his wife Annette of Florida, daughter Susan and husband Chris Montgomery of Lancaster, five grandchildren, Adam Montgomery (and wife Kim), of Palmdale, Cody Montgomery (and wife Justine), Nathan Montgomery (and wife Kristen) both of Lancaster, Daniela Crowder of Santa Barbara, and Rachel (and husband Jordan Scott) of Texas, 4 great grandchildren, sisters in law Susan Hayes of Washington, Darlene Hayes of Oregon, Carol Crowder of San Bernardino, and brother in law Joe Hugille of Arizona as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Services will be held on April 27th, at 1:00 p.m. at New Life Fellowship, 725 East Ave J, Lancaster, CA (behind Lutheran church).
