A native of Hawaii, she was born August 3, 1934 in Hilo (on the Big Island) to William and Rose Pacheco. Even though her family eventually left Hawaii for the mainland (California to be exact), Lorraine maintained a fierce love for the islands, their culture, and its language; a love she passed down to her children and grandchildren.
On April 16th,1955 she married Robert (Bob) Schaff, an officer in the Air Force. Being a military wife meant a lot of moving around with small children, which proved a testament to her strength as a person and mother.
In 1963 they moved to the Philippines with their then 4 children (and one on the way), then after moved to Texas and Ohio, before finally making their way back to California.
A creative spirit, Lorraine painted many still lifes in oils and she nurtured the creative and artistic skills in her own children. She also enjoyed singing and sharing her love of music.
Even though her family was spread out from Alaska (then Hawaii), California, and Texas, she made it a priority to visit all of her children and grandchildren as often as she could. She was an incredibly generous spirit and loved her family immeasurably, praying for everyone daily. She served her church and community and, most importantly, was instrumental in helping her family learn how much God loves each and every one of us. She shared her faith, planting seeds that led others to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and to be born again, for which her family is eternally grateful.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her father, William, mother, Rose, daughter, Janice, daughter, Karen, and grandson, Matthew. She is survived by her husband, Robert, sister, Winnie, son, Robert Jr., daughters, Roseann, Lynda, and Joan, as well as 11 grandchildren (Andrew, James, Karen, Daniel, Ephraim, Ethan, Joy, Emily, Jennifer, Paul, and Elizabeth), their partners, and 8 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, February 7th at 10am at Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary and a Graveside Service at 1:15pm at Bakersfield National Cemetery.
