He was born in Newark, NJ on June 6, 1935 to Mary and James Jannelli. He spent much of his younger years in Summit NJ before settling down with his loving wife Marjorie and having a family in New Providence, NJ. Ray worked for Chubb & Son Inc for 42 years, being hired right out of high school and reaching the level of Assistant Vice President before retiring in 1993. Upon retirement Ray and Marge moved to Toms River to spend their golden years.
Ray had a love for fastpitch softball as a young adult and developed himself into quite the pitching ace. He also enjoyed coaching Pop Warner football for the New Providence PAL and was especially proud of a championship they won during his time as a coach. Ray was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, frequently volunteering his time for community events, and was a past Grand Knight for the Summit Council. But his real passion in life was his family, who he loved spending time with as much as possible. The family spent many summer weekends at their house on Lake Wallenpaupack in the Pocono Mountains
Ray leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Marjorie, along with his children Leslie Arneson, Raymond Jannelli Jr and Robert Jannelli (Donna). He also leaves 2 grandchildren Kristen Genovese (Kent) and Robert Arneson, as well as his great-granddaughter McKenna Genovese. He was predeceased by his parents Mary and James and his sister Theresa.
