With sadness in our hearts, June Ione Bukey, of Lakewood , Colorado , passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 31, 2022 at the age of 90 years old. She was preceded in passing by her loving husband of 70 years, George H. Bukey.
June will be missed by her three children, Janice M. Wallace (Bukey), Randy G. Bukey (wife Janice), and Donald L. Bukey: 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson, as well as nephews and nieces.
June was born on June 18, 1931 in Denver, Colorado, one of eight siblings, to Albert Peter and Minnie Fern Hansen. She lived and attended schools in the Denver area where she eventually met George Bukey when she was in 9th grade. A few years later George, while on leave from the military, returned home to marry his high school sweetheart. George and June married on Valentine’s Day 1949, and few days later they moved Michigan, were George was stationed, to start the lives as husband and wife.
Over the years, June loved spending time tending to her rose garden, knitting and crocheting, loved music and went out on weekends with her husband dancing for many years. She was talented in so many aspects and genius with words and could finish a complicated crossword puzzle while having her coffee in the morning. As a stay-at-home Mom she was often referred to as the neighborhood “June Clever” and her home was always immaculate, with dinner of the table at 5:00 every night. After the children were grown, George and June became involved with the American Legion, Post 193 and June served numerous committees and held the position of Auxiliary President for three years. In time, George and June became active members of the Lakewood Elks Lodge 1777 organization and spent many years serving the Lakewood community. In her final years June preferred staying at home, playing on her tablet, and visiting with family.

“You never said I’m leaving, you never said goodbye. You were gone before we knew it, and only God knew why. A million times we needed you, a million times we cried. If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died. In life we loved you dearly, in death, we love you still. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God took you home.” Author Unknown.
