Dennis Roediger Johnson, 77 passed away on May 15, 2024, in Wheat Ridge, CO after a two year battle with cancer. Dennis was born Aug 17, 1946, in Denver, CO to Carl S. and Virginia M. Johnson. Dennis grew up in Fort Morgan, CO on his parents' dairy farm. He graduated from St. John's Military School in Salina, KS in 1965. He attended Colorado State University until he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1966. He was a military aircraft mechanic stationed at Hill AFB, Utah and left the service in 1970 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. · While he was at CSU he met his future wife Apryl Williams and they were married in June 1969.
Dennis retired from the IRS in 2004 and prior to that he was an insurance salesman for Mutual of Omaha. He was an active member of the Colorado Jaycees for several decades. In 1981 he was awarded a membership and fellowship to Jaycees International as a Senator. In 2001 he became a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. During his 23 years of service, he spent 5 years as Governor of Denver Lodge #21. He also spent time as a Chaplain, Vice President, President, and Junior Past President of the Pikes Peak Moose Legion. In 2013 he was elevated to the highest degree of Pilgrim. He was also a member of the American Legion, Colorado Post 0001.
Dennis is survived by his two daughters, Melynda (Mike) Childers of Evans, CO and Pamela (Pam) Johnson of Commerce City, CO, three grandsons, Jaysen Childers, Bryce (Samantha) Childers and Eryk Childers, One brother Steven Johnson of Portland, OR, his beloved canine companion Lucia and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenneth Johnson, two sisters Sarah and Susan Johnson.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday May 26, 2024, at 2pm at the Denver Moose Lodge #21, 4688 W. Alameda Ave, Denver, CO. (Additional parking available at the Lily of Valley Church next door). A private interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery at a later date.
