Benito "Ben" G. Hernandez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and patriot, peacefully passed away on April 6, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on March 21, 1933, in Spearville, Kansas, Ben was the son of hardworking parents and grew up amidst the loving chaos of a large family, with nine siblings by his side.
Ben's early years were shaped by the values of integrity, loyalty, and service. He attended Spearville High School, where he laid the foundation for a lifetime of dedication and commitment. In 1958, he joined hands in marriage with Andalecia. Together, they raised three remarkable sons: Ben Joseph, Mark, and Jerry.
A proud veteran, Ben served his country with honor and distinction in the US Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant and dedicating four years of his life to defending the freedoms and values he held dear. His service instilled in him a deep sense of duty and pride, qualities that would define his character for years to come.
Ben was a man of passion and conviction, whether it was in his unwavering support for the Democratic Party or his fervent allegiance to his beloved Raiders, especially when they clashed with the Broncos. His enthusiasm for his team knew no bounds, and he cherished each victory as a triumph of spirit and determination.
Ben's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, his cherished sons Ben Joseph and Jerry, his canine companion Bo-Bo, and all but one of his siblings, Fidel. He is survived by his loving wife Andie, his son Mark, four adoring grandchildren – Matthew, Mitchell, Mark, and Madelyn – as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
A funeral liturgy honoring Ben's life will be held on Thursday, April 18th, at 1:00 PM at Advantage Runyan Stevenson Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at 2:30 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with military honors.
