Virgil Lee Pittman Jr., born on June 29, 1941, in Oil City, Louisiana, to Nona and Virgil Pittman, passed peacefully in Austin, Texas, to reunite with his Lord and Savior on March 22, 2024, leaving behind a legacy illuminated by his generosity, wit, love, and wisdom.
For almost 60 years, Virgil shared a profound and beautiful bond with his beloved wife, Diane, whom he met in college and married on March 27, 1964. Diane was his soulmate, best friend, and the beacon of joy in his life. Always at each other’s side, they enjoyed a wonderful life together.
Virgil's life story is one of triumphs over adversity. He often recounted with gratitude the individuals within his church, school, and community who played pivotal roles in helping him become resilient and compassionate. Those early years of God’s faithfulness led him to have a profound love for the church, evident in his active participation and boundless generosity, which touched the lives of many.
As the eldest sibling, Virgil embraced the principles of duty and service early on, a path that led him from the proud achievement of becoming an Eagle Scout to honorably serving in the United States Navy following his collegiate years.
In his professional life, Virgil was a visionary at the cutting edge of computer programming and information technology. His innovative spirit and dedication to his craft propelled him to success, leaving an indelible mark on the ever-evolving landscape of technology, specifically in the insurance field.
Virgil found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of golfing, fishing, and cruising around the world, which he shared with his family. Whether his lakefront house in retirement or any of the houses before or since, he and Diane made each not just a home, but a family sanctuary where many fond memories were made.
Virgil had a knack for spreading happiness wherever he went, creating fun memories not only for his grandchildren, but other children as well. He loved telling jokes, sharing stories about knowing Elvis, recalling adventures with his Porsche, balloon making, and playing Santa Claus at Christmas.
But above all, Virgil will be remembered as a charmer with an infectious smile and a heart of gold. His warmth, compassion, and zest for life touched the lives of all who knew him. Virgil's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
