Loving wife and mother of two, she was born in Mobile Alabama, and then moved with her family to Honolulu, Hawaii at the age of 13. She attended Kaimuki High School, and had lifelong Alabama and Hawaii friends. She was the first in her family to graduate from college with a degree from The University of Hawaii in Human Development. She then attained a MEd in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling at the University of Texas and a Professional Diploma in Education at Chaminade University of Honolulu. Roxanna was a born-again Christian, and her faith was a central part of her life. She attended Waialae Baptist Church in high school and accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at the age of 17. She was thankful for the gift of her salvation, and found comfort and wisdom throughout life with many verses in the Bible. Throughout school she enjoyed being involved in the youth group and church choir, which developed her lifelong love for music and singing. She expressed her love of being a Born-Again Christian through music by: playing the piano, guitar and ukuleles; singing as a soloist, with a choir and/or with the congregation in Hawaii (at Waialae Baptist Church, University Avenue Baptist Church, and Kaimuki Christian Church) and Texas (at Westlake/Austin Ridge Bible Church).
On May 28, 1983 at Waialae Baptist Church, Roxanna married Christopher, her partner and helpmate of 41 years. She became a part-time stepmom to Jason. Roxanna and Chris would work together to raise 2 sons, Christian and Rannon (Five and seven years later respectively), in Hawaii and eventually in Texas, when they moved to Austin in 2000. Roxanna and Chris would work together in her classroom, volunteering at Church teaching children’s Bible classes and in the nursery, and serving the community in many ways.
Her lifelong gift was to help others in need and in her 25 year career (between 1987 thru 2012) taught over 500 elementary students. Specializing in her Kindergarten curriculum, she often said one of the greatest gift she could give, was to teach children to read before moving on to the 1st grade. She gave them the educational foundation to become the best they can be in life. Roxanna retired early as a teacher from the State of Hawaii as well as Lake Travis ISD in Texas. Upon retiring, she: traveled the US and parts of the world with Christopher, her family and friends; and enjoyed helping others by providing sewn items for Community First, Healing Heart Pillows, Texas Baptist Children's Home, True Care, Settlement Home and ailing friends and family.
Roxanna is survived by her: husband, Christopher; brother; sons (spouse), Christian (Jennifer) and Rannon (Katie); 3 grandchildren, Avigail, Asher, and Evelynn; step-son, Jason (Lisa) Ching; and 2 step-grandchildren, Jayden and Braden. She also leaves behind many loving cousins, nephews and nieces, along with countless friends and former co-workers who always felt her care and generosity.
