Margaret Weber, 87, passed away peacefully and with her family on Saturday, November 2, 2024, in Austin, Texas. Margaret was born June 9, 1937, in Lewisburg, TN, a town of 3,000 at the time and home to the renowned Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders Association.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Paul Andler Weber, Jr. from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and her parents William Cecil and Ophelia Bayer Scott of Lewisburg, TN. She is survived by her brother William Cecil Scott, Jr. and his wife Bess Scott of Houston, Texas; her sister Ophelia Scott Miller of Atlanta, GA, her late husband Bill Miller and their two sons Mark and Paul Miller; her son P. A. (Andy) Weber III and his wife Jill Valestrino Weber of Austin, TX: her daughter Margaret (Molly) Weber Lane and husband David (Mac) McNamara Lane of Austin, TX; her grandchildren Merrill Margaret Weber of Washington, D.C.; AnnaHelen Weber of San Francisco, CA; Caroline Adrienne Lane of Austin, TX; David (Mac) McNamara Lane Jr., A1C, Cannon Airforce Base, Clovis, New Mexico; and her 2 nephews David Scott and wife Kimberly of Spring, TX., and Brian Scott and his wife Angelica Almanza of Spring, TX.
Margaret grew up in Lewisburg attending Marshall County High School graduating in 1955. She subsequently enrolled in Brenau University and graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville with a bachelor’s degree in Education. While teaching school in Atlanta after graduation, she met her husband Paul on a blind date which commenced with an airplane flight piloted by Paul. After marrying in December 1961, they moved to Albuquerque, NM where Margaret taught school and Paul worked at Sandia National Laboratories. In 1965 they moved to Houston, TX where they focused on their family and community, adopting Andy in 1966 and Molly in 1969. They remained in Houston until moving closer to family in Austin in 2021.
Aside from nurturing her family, Margaret was active in Memorial Drive United Methodist Church for over 40 years and served as wedding coordinator for 22 years. She served as an active member and leader of the Assistance League of Houston and the Houston Tri Delta Alumni Association. Never meeting a stranger, she was sought after by Neiman Marcus and Town & Country Mall for her retail expertise and sales success in perfume and cosmetics.
Most importantly, Margaret was a loyal wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all those in her life. She nurtured all of her relationships with enthusiasm, optimism, energy, and caring thoughts and deeds which were graciously instilled in her children and grandchildren. Our family treasures her family photo albums curated after every family trip and vacation, along with her trip journaling which were wonderfully detailed to remember these events. She was particularly proud of her Lewisburg childhood friend group, the ZigZaggers, who annually vacationed together as a group until 2019, allowing her to reminisce about small-town life, family, and relationships.
The Weber family is grateful for her contributions to our lives. We have been rewarded with her love, loyalty, kindness, enthusiasm and guidance and will continue forward with those values instilled in us. We are grateful for her friends who have also walked with her and our family throughout so many years. We will miss our “Grandmaggie” but know that she remains with us through her kind spirit and loving friendships which have given so much to her and our family.
