Bob was born in Lochgelly, Fife, Scotland on May 19, 1943. From humble beginnings as a coal miner, he attended night school to eventually become an electrical engineer. He was an innovator in the semiconductor industry, as well as a published author. Bob’s old mentor stated, “Bob was a fierce competitor. He was particularly interested in quality which was not only defined as the reliability of the product, but also in the experience of the customer.” He took great pride in his career and the people he inspired.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kate; his children, Michael and his wife Casey, Susan and her husband Chuck, Christopher and his wife Carli, and Dianne; his seven grandchildren, Sophie, Emma, Ewan, Collin, Henry, Kinley and Hattie; and his sister Marion.
Of all the accomplishments in Bob’s life, all the accolades, titles, and successes, the one thing he truly cared about was his family. His dedication and mentorship as a father, his gentle love and care as a grandfather, and his commitment and dedication as a husband knew no limits. Whether it was treating the room to a bad Scottish joke, or sneaking the grandkids pieces of chocolate in a napkin, he blessed us all in his own unique way. Upon his passing, a former colleague stated, “Bob gave so much more to the world than he took.” I think this says everything about him. He never wanted for himself, he never complained. He only wanted the best for his family, and he showed that to the very end. Bob was a great man. He will be missed by many.
