Growing up in San Diego, he enjoyed the beaches, friends, and high school football. He attended San Diego State University where he pledged Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. From there went on to the University of Washington Law School. He finished with great grades but instead of sitting for the Bar, he met that love of his life Betty Lou Sanders Pepin. They elope three weeks later. Shortly after their marriage, Jack was called to duty in the Army where he was first stationed in Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas as a medic. He ended his military career in Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Washington. This beautiful love story produced two children, Lynda and Larry and traveling and making amazing friends along the way with Farmers Insurance Group from Washington to Oregon, Illinois, Texas, California and landing in Lakeway, Texas for retirement.
Jack and Betty also made many friends in Lakeway. Jack was an avid golfer, sports fanatic, Texas Longhorns Fan and had season tickets to the Longhorn Football games and attended many baseball games and basketball as well. Jack also spent many years traveling on his golf cart to the Lakeway Golf Club to have breakfast with his golfing buddies (even after giving up the game) to talk about family, politics, sports, and the weather. He could be seen on his back patio on tolerable weather afternoons sharing some wine, music and conversations with any of his neighbors that might drop and always with his beloved companion, Ralphie by his side (thanks to a wonderful neighbor, Cici Ely). Jack and Ralphie were also known for morning rides around Lakeway on the golf cart. Although Jack missed his beloved Betty Lou for the last 3 ½ years – He celebrated life, family and friends with all his heart.
He is preceded in death by his father; Troy Lewis, mother; Eunice Lewis; wife, Betty Lou Lewis; Betty’s parents Fred and Dorothy Pepin.
Hs is survived by his daughter, Lynda Lewis Alston and husband Tim; son, Larry Robert Lewis; grandchildren Van R. Alston, Alex E. Alston, Emily L. Alston and Alyssa S. Lewis and many, many friends who will miss him terribly.
