Diane was born in Madrid, Iowa, where she played basketball for Madrid High School and worked at Matt’s Lounge, her parents’ restaurant. She met her husband and love of her life Wayne during high school and later married in 1970 while attending Iowa State University in Ames. She and her family later lived in several locations including Minneapolis, Baton Rouge, Massachusetts, and Connecticut before settling in Texas.
Diane’s strong Catholic faith guided many areas in her life. She was an active leader in her church community wherever she lived, leading RCIA programs and serving as a Eucharistic Minister. To complement her service, she earned a Master’s in Pastoral Ministry from Loyola University – New Orleans. More recently, she was an active member of the Ladies of Charity (LoC), volunteered at the LoC thrift store in Lakeway, and served as VP of Membership on their board. She was also active with Mobile Loaves & Fishes, feeding the homeless in Austin.
Family and friends were integral to Diane. She grew up surrounded by her relatives and cousins, and she encouraged any opportunity for a family gathering, especially those where she could dance. She embraced her Croatian heritage and listened to Croatian music regularly. She was an avid golfer and traveled all over the world with her husband and friends. She enjoyed playing cards and games with her grandchildren, and she was an excellent cook who loved to open her home to others and entertain. Her warmth, smile, and enjoyment of life always brightened the lives of those who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years of marriage, Wayne, her brother John Kruzick of Athens, Greece, and her children and grandchildren: Nicole (Jack), Kate, and Jack Williams of Austin, TX; Matt (Brandy), Charlee, and Brewer Hussey of Auburn, AL; Mike (Michael) Hussey of Cary, NC; and Stephanie Hussey of Dallas, TX. She is also survived by numerous close cousins, relatives, and friends she cherished dearly.
