Benny Joe Nickell, 81, of Spicewood, Texas, died Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, Lakeway, Texas at 5:18 pm. He was a retired welder, mechanic and farmer. Joe loved working and was a hard worker. He enjoyed gardening and always had a thriving garden in the Texas heat. He was kind, caring and honest to a fault. He always had a helping hand to lend. He loved his people and had a grumpy happiness about him. He will be missed immensely.
Joe was born on October 26, 1942 in Milan, Missouri to Robert Earl Nickell and Reba Isabel Rhodes. He graduated from Liberty High School in Browning, Missouri where he lived the first half of his life. He was married to Patrica Evelyn Hollon and they had two children Angela Jo and Mark Everett. In 1984, he moved to Lakeway, Texas where he spent the remainder of his life with his partner Jolene Langle.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Angela and son-in-law Jimmy Head, Basehor, Kansas; son, Mark Nickell and partner, Melissa Flashpohler, Brookfield, Missouri. Grandchildren Jeremy Brian Elson, New York, Alyssa Jo and Eric Mateo, Gardner, Kansas, Ryley James Head, Basehor, KS. Michael Eric Nickell, Megan Jo and Ira Moseley, Spencer Everett and Katie Nickell, and Parker Emily Nickell all of Brookfield, Missouri. Great Grandchildren include Mason Everett Nickell, Chillicothe, MO, Kyler Joseph Dorrell, Marceline, MO, Zander and Deacon Brown, Brookfield, Vivenne Mae and Sienna Honey Mateo, Gardner, KS, Leo Kendall, Jax Chelsey, Lucy and Ella Moseley, Brookfield.
Survivors from Texas family include his partner, Jolene, of the home. Son Jeff Langle and daughter-in-law Cindy Langle, Candice and BJ & Camden Smith. Son Brad Langle, Spicewood, Grandchildren Jude and Jennifer Langle, Reece, Brooklyn and Grant Langle, Dripping Springs. Son Will and daughter-in-law Monica Langle, Bastrop, grandchildren Brandon Langle, Austin, Taylor and Ross Ashford, Stephenville. Daughter Jo Rae and son-in-law Keith Dienhart, Webberville, grandchildren Cody and Regina Dienhart and daughter Baylee Tucker, Webberville, Colton Dienhart, Webberville.
Joe is survived by sister, Mary Day and husband Tom, Kansas City, MO, sister Joyce Rulon, Oklahoma City, OK and brother Roger Nickell and wife Roseanne, Shawnee Mission, KS. Joe leaves many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by mother and father, Reba and Earl Nickell, one brother Bob Nickell and a nephew Kent Rulon.
Celebration of life will be October 26th in Spicewood, Texas at 2 pm at his home.
