Helen was born, August 17th, 1932, to the late Edward and Bertha Moore in Lake Worth, FL. She graduated from Lake Worth High (Class of 1950). She then earned a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree from FAU and a Doctorate in Early Childhood Education from Nova Southeastern University. Helen taught at Palm Beach Public School and served as a Specialist for Gifted Education for Palm Beach School District. She taught as an Adjunct Professor for Nova University for more than 40 years. After retiring from the School District, Helen operated the Helen Gilmore Learning Center, a tutoring center in Lantana. Among other accomplishments Helen was President of the American Association of University Women and also the National Association of Women Business Owners chapter in Palm Beach County. Helen was a licensed pilot and flew the family Cessna 182 and Piper Arrow.
Helen is survived by her husband of 72 years, Harold Gilmore; son, Steve Gilmore (Patricia), of Brisbane, AU; daughters, Janet Washburn (Edgar) and CeCe Skinner, of Ft. Pierce. Also surviving are six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Linda Moore and Cynthia Moore.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 27th at the United Methodist Church of the Palm Beaches, 900 Brandywine Rd., WPB 33409. Fellowship time 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm with the Service to begin at 2:00 pm.
