Elizabeth “Betty” Swenson was born to Mary and Oscar Swenson in 1923. She grew up in Locust Valley, New York. She fell in love with and married Louis Figari. They lived in Glen Cove, NY, and became the parents of 4 daughters Linda, Elaine, Carol and Joyce.
Betty lost her husband when he was only 42 years old. In 1967 she moved from New York to south Florida to be closer to her sisters who lived here.
In her younger days, Betty was a skilled bowler and enthusiastic swimmer. She was an avid reader and a collector of old books, always hoping to find one worth a fortune. Betty loved knitting, she made sweaters, Christmas stockings, booties, baby blankets and hats for her family and friends too.
At age 65 Betty moved to Lake Worth and shared a home with her sister Jane for 32 years. She attended Lake Osborne Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Knit Wits Group and a faithful attendee of Sunday Church services and weekly Bible studies as well as the ladies mission support group.
Betty traveled all over the United States with family and friends, enjoying country roads and fun adventures, especially out west. When Betty was 70 years old, she and Jane worked at Yellowstone Park for 3 months. They made sandwiches and served ice cream to guests, and on their weekends off, they explored every inch of the Park.
Betty recently moved back to her home in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where she peacefully went home to be with her Lord 9 days before her 101st birthday. She left behind her 4 daughters, 7 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and many friends who miss her dearly.
A Celebration of Life for Elizabeth will be held Friday, November 15, 2024 at 2:30pm at Lake Osborne Presbyterian Church, 2101 6th Avenue South, Lake Worth, FL 33461.
